When to Replace Your Water Heater

March 07, 2017

Should you replace your water heater? Stallion Heating Plumbing Air Conditioning is here with a couple signals to look for when choosing whether it’s time to buy a new water heating system.

Age

If your water heater receives routine maintenance, you can expect it to operate around ten years, depending on the number of people living in your home. By the time your water heater is 10 years, it’s usually time to seriously think about replacement, especially before a leak happens.

Rusty Water

If the water from your water heater (hot side pipes) is streaming out rusty, it could be an indicator that your water heater is rusting on the inside. This could create a leak, not to mention contaminated water. Contact an expert plumber to have them determine if your water heater system is getting ready to breakdown.

Strange Noises

Thundering or banging sounds coming from your water heater can be a sign that residue has built up on the foundation of the tank. This means your water heating system will be less efficient and will demand more gas or electricity to heat your water, resulting in higher water heating bills. It also means that the additional time spent heating your water could cause more damage on your tank, possibly generating cracks or leaks.

Water

If you notice water around your water heater tank, you could have a leak. Call an expert plumber to come out and examine your equipment and they can supply you a quote on a new water heater if necessary.
